Contactless payments, don't you just love them?

Contactless payments, don’t you just love them?

Apparently, ‘tis the season to be jolly. With contactless card readers all over the place, ’tis easy to spend loads of money without realizing too. I must say I really do love my contactless card. I still have a chip and pin visa card, but the contactless credit card sure does make it a lot quicker to shop, especially during the festive period.

What else can we be jolly about?

Homeplus shopping experience is amazing!

Homeplus shopping experience is amazing!

So Homeplus (unlucky Tesco!) in South Korea has made home shopping easy, by offering customers the ability to scan QR codes on virtual shelves of desirable products, allowing them to be added to your shopping list in the cloud that no-one quite understands and then arrange for same day delivery. I’d have to go to South Korea a visit in order to put the webapp to proper use, since the its not been translated in to English. It sure does sound rather amazing. Can you imagine getting your phone out at the bus stop, as you always do, but then ordering the new Start Wars droid, BB8, for deliver just before Christmas?

Next day delivery sounds like a really long time to many people these days as we become more accustomed to getting what we want on demand. Netflix made me very happy when they released all episodes of Jessica Jones. Its nice partaking in a marathon that doesn’t involve me getting all hot and sweaty. But Netflix is no Amazon Prime. And I’m not referring to the videos Amazon has to offer, rather its full package.

Amazon Prime has loads of little extras, and my favorite one is toss up being Amazon Prime Music (I easily have £100 worth of music downloaded for free because of it), and Amazon Prime Now. The later satisfied my cravings for a Kindle Fire 7. After ordering at about 9:30am, my new e-book reader came by 11am. They even deliver until midnight on Sundays! Amazon did some great advertising earlier in the year to tell customers about Amazon Prime Now. I was encouraged to sign up whilst waiting for a train at Limehouse DLR Station!

The Amazon Prime Now app is simple and fun to use

The Amazon Prime Now app is simple and fun to use

The app is very easy to use. Just type in your postcode and what are looking for, add a tip if you like, and if you’re willing to wait up to 3 hours (usually just 1hr though), you’ll get your purchase in a hurry. Just remember you need to spend £20 minimum, otherwise they will just add the difference to your balance. With that said, options on Prime Now are a little more expensive than what you would find even on Amazon Prime Next Day Delivery items, or intend regular 1st class delivery items. So try and look for your bargains. And there is no better way to ensure you find your bargains than a good ol’ Google Shopping search.

I recently had to buy a gift for a special someone last minute after discovering my original gift was never going to be delivered. I couldn’t believe it; I had made an order and got a confirmation email saying it’s being processed. But the delivery date came and went with no delivery actually being made. Once I had done my digging, it became apparent that the website I ordered from cancelled my order immediately, stopping my order going through. If I never went and investigated, I would still be waiting for this gift. So much confusion, all because a website didn’t notify me.

This is where Google Shopping has helped me out a lot as it has done for years now. I just typed in my gift, changed the filters and sorting setting, and boom! Gift found.

Modern technology doesn’t always get it right, but there are many solutions out there that can make our festive shopping fun and easy experience.

So Merry UXmas everyone. Try not to break the bank, hearts, or your belts over the Christmas period. And have a Happy New Year
